Trip Tatting

It's late, but I promised tatting so here goes.

My friend B and I traveled about 9 hours from North Dakota to Manitowoc Wisconsin.  Manitowoc is on the east edge of WI, right on Lake Michigan.

We were going to visit B's mom A.  We took turns driving, and while B drove, I tatted.

1.

Here is a Rosary I tatted on the trip.  It was for A who is 84, so I used size 10 thread.  It is a hand dyed thread I bought on ebay several years ago, and do not know the colorway or the base thread, but it is soft.

2. A's sister, D, also lives in the same complex.  She is 90 which shocked me, as I was sure she was still in her 70's.  She flower gardens along the outside her apartment, plants tomatoes in the designated vegetable areas, and because she had more plants started then room for, dug up another area down the slope from her patio near a wooded area.  She also volunteers at the local food pantry every friday morning, leads the Rosary every evening at 7, sews and mends for people, and in her spare time, sets puzzles and does plastic canvas needle craft.

The plant below is one she has had for some time, but she said it made her mad as it wouldn't bloom, and was going to throw it out, so I took it.

In the pot along with the plant was one of those clear stakes that florist use to hold a card. So, to pay her for being such a sweet lady, I tatted Sherry Pences' Hope Butterfly and attached it to the stake. D was pleased.

This was tatted using the same thread as the Rosary.

3. I finished my Tischband flowers
They are tatted in Marilee Rockley's Rhubarb Pie in size 40. The quarter is to show size. Now I have to decide on the leaf color and get them finished.

4. I had some down time and in my previous post showed some thread from Jess at Tat-ilicous.
Here is what I tatted with the Camo-licious

Her name is Huntress.  She is a Forest Guardian.  The thread is a size 40.  Here is a scan of both Huntress and Dawn Flyer, the dragon I tatted last fall.
Dawn Flyer is tatted in size 20.
I have almost finished the 4 book series titled Inheritance Cycle, by Christopher Paolini.  In those books there are 5 dragons,  Saphira who is blue, Thorn who is red, Glaedr who is golden, Shruikan who is black  and one dragon egg that has yet to hatch, so I don't know what color that one will be.  I have a yen to tat dragons in those colors.

5. Once I finished these I started a doily with the second colorway from Jess, Peacock in size 40.

I paired it a ball of DMC in size 40 color # 320 Pistachio Green - Med. The doily is Linda Davies Star Attraction.

And I will leave you with several other pictures I took on my trip.
Lake Michigan

one of the Submarines built in Manitowoc.  This one is now a museum.
Along the road in the middle of the state there is a resident with a sense of humor.  Do any of you remember the TV show Petty Coat Junction?
We actually turned around and went back a couple miles, just to get this picture.

I hope all of you who qualify had a great Mother's day, I was contacted by all my children so that made it a very good day for me.

Have a great day tomorrow.
now it is time for bed.

one of the things I have tatted lately

I finished this last evening but didn't get a chance to post it until tonight.
This is done in Flora size 20.
The nun I made this for said her favorite color was emerald green.  this is the closest that I could get to that.

The weather this weekend has been gorgeous for this time of hear. 60 yesterday and today not quite so warm, but still warm enough.  the snow has been melting.  not too long and field work will start again. spring is around the corner, and summer can't be far behind.

I have been test tatting several patterns for another tatter, so can't show that work.

Tatting I can share

I have been doing some tatting I can share with you.
These Rosaries are headed to Kansas City.

They are both tatted using Lizabeth threads in size 20
The upper one is done in Ocean Sunset and the lower right in Denim Whisper.

I usually can tat a rosary in 2 hours, with no problems.
I was able to tat the blue one from start to finish with no trouble, only had to put it down to do other things once, but the Ocean Sunset,  I had more trouble with.  I don't know what it was, but I had to cut out 2 sections at different times and re-attach the thread to continue it also took me several days to get it finished as I only had time for tatting in the evenings.

the rest of my tatting can't be shown yet, but you will see it in due time.
Merry Christmas everyone.
and a Blessed New Year with lots of time for tatting.

A Bunch of Rosaries and 25 motif challenge

I have been off my blog for the past 10 days.

during that time I have tatted 5 rosaries. Ombre purple, lavender, pink, green, multi.

I started last weekend at the Marian Eucharistic Congress. I was able to tat almost 2 per day. until the last day, when I decided to make a multi colored one. That one is pictured here.

I used the shoelace trick between the split rings and changed colors on the Our Father rings. Other wise it is my basic Rosary pattern.

This rosary took me all week to sandwich in between other things.
I was tatting the rosaries during the talks, and many people came up to me to ask what I was doing. I gave several small quick demonstrations during breaks. All the rosaries except this one were given away on the spot. This one has a designated recipient as well.
I am adding the 5 rosaries to my 25 motif challenge as 1 item, since I don't have pictures to show of all of them.
I am hoping that this week will be more productive for tatting as I need to get the Christmas Presents done.

too much life and not enough time, so off to bed for me.
Happy Tatting

In answer to several requests for the pattern for my rosary, I wrote it up quickly tonight. it is in the shortened version that I use for myself. If you need help, let me know.
2008 Rosary Pattern
by Jeanne Lugert (ladytats) NATA #39
ladytatslace#yahoo.com ( change the # to @)
R= ring
SR = split ring
CL = close ring
LCH = lock stitch chain
- = very small joining picot
+ = join
Sh# = shuttle 1 or shuttle 2
RW = reverse work
[X#] = number of repeats
CTM = Continuous Thread Method
size 20 thread
Wind approxamately 6 yds on shuttle 1 and 5yds on shuttle 2 CTM
Starting at the bottom of the cross,
SR 8/8 CL,
SR 7-1/7-1 CL,
SH1 R 1+14-1 CL, RW
SH2 R 1=14-1 CL, RW
SR1+7/1+7 CL
LCH 4
SR 8/8 CL
LCH 4
SR 8/8 CL [X3]
LCH 4
SR 8- (lay in magic thread)8/(lay in magic thread)8 CL [yes, this is a lopsided ring]
LCH 4
*SR 8/8 CL [X10]
LCH 4* Repeat for 5 decades.
Cut threads about 6” from end of last LCH and join to picot (tie ends around together in a knot) in large ring. Hide ends using magic threads
notes:
I used to use a regular chain instead of the lock stitch chain, but it had a tendancy to curve and I like the look of the LCH in this pattern.
The above stitch count is the one that I used for a man's rosary, for a women's, I have cut the stitch count to 6 instead of 8 for rings and used 3 for the LCH, but you don't need to. The basic stitch count can be increased or decreased as you please depending on the look you want or the size of the thread.
Also I have added picots to the sides of the Our Father rings, and to the cross.
I have added beads or used a blending filament for sparkle. Have fun, and if you have any questions, let me know.
