more trip news

My friend and I have arrived where it is warm and dry.
we are having a very good visit and seeing lots of interesting stuff.
went through a couple big antique stores/malls yesterday.  the only things I was looking for were any items that were tatted, had tatting applied to them, or was a tatting shuttle.
Not a single tatting related item was to be found.  crochet and knitting, but no tatting.
Sheesh,  what a backward location  he he he  :)

gotta go have more fun.  see you later

today and trip news

this is out my bedroom window this morning.  notice the snow frosting on the outside of the window?  that was on all our windows last night and this morning.

the trip has been moved back until tomorrow,  too many bad roads to try to drive today.

while out taking pictures this morning,  Shep insisted that it was his turn.  so here he is.

back to life in winter in North Dakota until Spring decides to come back.

sigh....

So, I changed my travel plans from  6 am thursday to wednesday afternoon to miss the spring fog crossing the Sisseton Hills in NE South Dakota.  That meant getting more work done on tuesday so I could leave work at noon.

Now we have a major winter storm kicking around here.
Thunder and Lightening snow storm.  Yes, Thunder and Lightening .  It started with rain most of the day, then turning to freezing drizzle and sleet balls, then to snow.  very very windy.

So,  depending on how the weather and roads look tomorrow,  it is likely we are back to leaving on thursday, but to avoid the dreaded fog and ice roads going over the hills, we will have to leave later in the morning, so we most likely will miss the Terry Redlin Museum in Watertown.

Oh Well,  just gives Barb and I a good reason to take a day trip and go there some other time.

getting ready

This afternoon while washing the dishes,  my brain was busy thinking of all that I have to do before leaving later this week.  One of the things that popped into/out of my brain was the following song.

did you know that Twinkle Twinkle Little Star has more then 1 verse?  Well, it does, so without further ado.....

Sung to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle little star

Barb and I are on a trip
Not a hop and not a skip
North Dakota and South too
Nebraska, Kansas we go through
Barb and I are on a trip
Not a hop and not a skip

Oklahoma's in the way
Into Texas one more day.

Visiting them's just the best
Barb and I are on a trip
Not a hop and not a skip

now we're having lots of fun.
Tired when the day is done
it is warm and dry down here
chilly floods at home we fear
Barb and I are on a trip
Not a hop and not a skip

homeward bound lets turn around
through the states we first came down
going on a trip is fun
getting home we're glad we're done
Barb and I are on a trip
Not a hop and not a skip

Barb and I are on a trip
Not a hop and not a skip

I am not a song writer, so sorry if I have taken liberties with an oldie but a goodie.

not hiding, really I mean it

I have been tatting, but nothing to show.  some for myself and some as a test tatter.

I tossed most of what I had done for myself, as it was just a ramble.

but the test tatting went very well.  Obviously I can't show what, but Crazy Mom Tats was kind enough to allow me to test one of her patterns.  It went very well.

this weekend's project

I am posting here the shoulder bag that I mentioned in my previous post about the toiletries bag

The size is 16x12x4  I used a 2" wide webbing for the strap as I felt that would be more comfortable with a narrow strap.

There is a pocket in the flap behind the orange zipper ( recycled) can you see the flap?  guess that is what camouflage is for  he he.

I also put a zipper in the top of the bag, to keep contents from falling out
Sorry for the wiggle, it is late at night.

and here is a look at the interior.  I put a pocket on the back side of the bag too.  I used a taffeta type material, so that things will not "grab" the the lining when  you take them out and put them in.
I'm rather proud of how it turned out.

the basic pattern for the bag can be found here  and the idea for the zipper in the top came from here

on a weather note,  we got a severe winter storm again today.  wind from the northeast this time and more snow.  the forecast is for 6+"

in exchange

I finished the reticule and sent it on it's way.

now I will show you the really neat items that I received in exchange.

First, these threads were in the package.  very pretty colors.

Then, because we had agreed to an exchange of warm, yummy hand knit socks for the tatted reticule,  I was expecting 1 pair of socks, but instead look what I got.......

a pair of 100% wool "practical" pair done is Eyelet Spiral

and  a second fancy pair done in Cashmere.  yes there are beads around the top and ruffles.

thank you Marybeth,  they will be worn with pride and thanks for keeping my feet warm.

if you are interested in the socks that Marybeth knits, as well as the other items she produces, both for sale and for her charity "Nimble Fingers on the Prairie" where she helps keep low income kids warm with hats, mittens, scarves, socks and other wearables  please visit her blog Socks
