Come Along on a Tat-Along

Jon over at Tat-A-Renda has posted the first graphic for the Norma Benporath patterns.
Norma's original patterns are available from the Trove website and Jon has their permission to update the patterns in current notation/graphics

This first updated pattern is for the Lace Mat which is the first pattern of Norma's that she had done.
This is Jon's version of the Lace Mat

She has asked if anyone would like to participate in a Tat-Along for this first mat, it is not a hard pattern, nor does it look all that difficult, but it makes a pretty mat/doily.

I am going to join this Tat-Along, how about you?

  1. So pretty! I already commented to join the Tat-Along as well! I had not seen this doily she had done though. Gorgeous! :o)
Mine will have to along very slowly. Must study!

    1. Jess, I am sure that speed is not the point. Do your studying and tat only when there is time and need for relaxation. Livi will have homework too.

  2. yes, she does.... every night. It's good for her though and they don't usually take long. :o)
I like your "need for relaxation"... because we all know there is no "time for relaxation" Atleast not too much in my world. :o)

  3. Thanks for showing this beautiful doily tatted by Jon, based on Norma's vintage pattern. I remember being so impressed by it - such a unique design in today's new threads.

I never would have known of Norma's work if Jon hadn't been so passionate about interpreting it. Now Jon is on a mission to diagram Norma's patterns, and she has a knack for creating beautiful drawings, too. I'm so glad the Library gave her permission! As I wrote to Jon, this project couldn't be in better hands!

I can see that this doily would be 'easy' to do (from the diagram) and I wish I could tat along, but I'm distracted by many other things right now, and I'd want the right thread, which I don't feel I have. I know many tatters will finish it in no time!

    1. Oh wow, way to go!
I wanted to finish the FireFly doily I started while I was demonstrating and after tonight I have about 2 hours to go.
I did pick out my thread tho.

    1. That's great IsDihara, a week ago I posted about the tatting demonstrating I did and included a picture of a couple doilies, one of them is being tatted in Jess's Firefly colorway http://ladytats.blogspot.com/2012/09/last-weekends-tatting-demo.html It is so striking, that I have been calling it the FireFly doily, but the real name is Easy Doily.

I think this Tat-along will be as much fun as the one Umi&Tsuru had earlier this year with the Tischband

  6. Thank you for 'broadcasting' this tat-along. I have been getting e-mails from tatters about the tat-along as well as asking for the patterns. I am sure some would have read about it here first.

This is going to be fun.

  7. Ah! I've been considering starting a fairly simple doily, and this pattern looks like just the one. Count me in too! I'm probably a bit slow, but it's such good inspiration to tat along :) Thanks.
