Finished!!!

Yeah, I have finished my Tischband Challange sponsored by Umi & Tsuru.

It isn't all that hard, I just didn't have enough time in chunks to get it done. The flowers are easy, but the leaves took me about an hour each and I had to follow the pattern very carefully to be sure my stitch counts were correct and that I was in the right place.

The Blute 1(Flowers) are done in Marilee's Rhubarb Pie size 40.  Blatt 2 (Leaves) are Jess's Camo-licious in size 40

The scan looks like it sits flat, and maybe it will after wetting and blocking, but it still is a bit wonky.

I only tatted 5 rounds in the flowers as opposed to the 6 listed in the pattern, but the pictures that accompany the pattern only show 5.  I also watched the video made by Frivole, but still feel that my construction is squished a bit.  If I do this again, ( not likely) I would join into 2 of the flower picots that are closer together.  By joining into the middle picot in each set, they flowers are trying to push the leaves.  If I had joined to 2 picots in the same set, or at least 2 picots closer together, it would have positioned the flowers further into the corners, and would have allowed the leaves to sit in a more natural position.

If I use this as a "mug rug" I will need to back it for support.

have a good night all. and happy tatting tomorrow

    1. Thanks for the challenge, Umintsuru, I would not have bothered to try this without it. and it was a good project, I have enjoyed tatting it.

  2. Oh, I like this and what a nice job! I've made leaves in Camo-licious and waiting to decide what color for the flowers. I'll check out my stash & see how much Rhubarb Pie is left. May copy you. Am using my first two for Mug Rugs every day and did not back them. Karen in OR

    1. Go for it Karen, and maybe I will use this for a mug rug without backing. I suppose sitting on the desk it won't be so floppy like it is when you pick it up.

    2. Not enough Rhubarb Crisp but Garden Afternoon instead. I'll use it and think it'll look good. Thanks for the idea. Karen

  4. Your Tischband looks marvelous! I have plenty of flowers tatted, but I haven't conquered the leaves yet. I need to find where I safely stashed everything. ; )

    1. The leaves are actually fairly easy, they just look intimidating. I just needed to keep track of where I was in the pattern, so my stitch counts were correct.
Whoever drew the graphic, Thank you, it was very helpful

  5. Those leaves are perfect! You did a wonderful job with this pattern.

Funny, that little picot on the top left that lies on the leaf is the same as the one I did. It bothered me and I could not get it to be anywhere else...

I think I woud like this pattern even more with very, very tiny picots on the flowers.

Also, this colour combo is unusual and very eye-catching. So pretty!

    1. yes, smaller picots would work too. after thinking about it more, if I made this again, I would make the leaves first, then join the flowers, and not use the middle picots to do so. I think that would work much better

  6. Beautiful! I applaud your finishing this challenge! These colors look well together, and I especially like the variations of color in the leaves. It seems as though Jess's thread was made for them, and you have tatted them perfectly!

It's also interesting that the pictures for the flowers show five rounds, and the pattern indicates six. They seem to be just the right size at five.

    1. I'm glad I was late starting and had the benefit of other's experience. There is no way it would have laid anywhere near flat with larger flowers.

  7. Congrats on finishing that challenge! I think it looks great. I don't think I will do it again either, but it was a great piece to focus on. I am considering attaching it to some fabric to make a mug rug too.

  9. Bellissima! Bella! Bella! What a stunning outcome. If you decide to back the "mug rug" it would be a FAB opportunity to a lined fabric mat. (I envision a square with a narrow binding, sort of like a quilt without the batting...but that's just me.)

My leaves never looked this nice. Must try them again to see if I can understand the instructions better. You say someone created a diagram? Where might I find it?

    1. Hi Isdihara, thank you Umi posted the graphic on her website in this post http://umintsuru.blogspot.com/2012/02/tischband-tat-along-blatt-2-pattern.html

you have to print the picture separate from the written instructions, in fact, I almost never referred to the written pattern, I worked from the graph.
