Doretha Tear Drop Doily complete

I have finished my version of the Tear Drop Doily designed by Georgia Seitz for Doretha Albe.

I used Lizbeth size 20 in Fruit Fiz (I remember the color name, but have lost the label, so have no idea of the number)

in my previous post I listed a couple other tatters who have made this doily and inspired me.  Fox has also made this doily.

I was able to get this to complete a circle using 14 points. While tatting this, I was thinking of changing the joining points to allow it to circle easier. I would join the 2 split rings on the sides of the tear drops and not join the top chain. that would pull the center closer and let the outer area curve more easily.  But then again, that might make it too floppy.

part of this doily was made while riding in the car.  because of not keeping my mind completely on what I was doing, I made a boo-boo.
the pattern calls for split ring, split ring, ring, chain, thrown off ring, chain, ring, split ring, split ring.
but I did split ring, split ring, chain, TOring, chain.  then looked at what I had done, and discovered that I had missed the 2 top rings.  I didn't want to frog the chain, TOring, chain; nor did I want to cut and hide ends.  but with a small amount of thought I said " ah ha!! I know how to fix this!"
How would you  fix this?  and can you find the spot?
leave your thoughts in a comment.  and I will do the reveal tomorrow night.

I am seriously thinking of how to fill in the center.  using Josephine Knots instead of picots does complicate the matter, but I have some thoughts on the subject. Do you have any ideas?  it is a bit unstable at this point.  picking it up it will distort, and you need to adjust it into a proper circle when you lay it down.

  1. Hallo, your döoily is beautiful with Josephine rings, I tried it out also. Sewing fabric to the middle is possible with Josephine knots, with a needle just going through one not, but is not very stable. Using other ways of crafting, for example crocheting is possible to Josephine knots, but will kill the point character of the dots. Another suggestion might be to put it in a nice frame. Then you don#t have the problem with the laying down, you might write or stich or paste a foto in the middle. Happy wednesday

    1. thanks Gunhild for your suggestions. I have thought about joining into the JK or sneaking up between to join between the chains to the main body with narrow split rings or.... I will consider mounting it instead.

  2. Beautiful! Wouldn't it make a lovely picture frame?

I have the pattern, but since I have not mastered the split ring to my satisfaction, I've never tried it. I guess I really should learn some new techniques! ; )

    1. really Diane? your tatting is so perfect that I am surprised you haven't mastered every single technique. I love split rings, split chains and any other way to climb out. I hate hiding ends.

  3. I would never have guessed there was a mistake at all. It looks wonderful! As far as the centre goes, I would probably leave it as is and frame it, or use it to frame a specia Knicks-knack. But I tend to take the easy way out.

  4. I don't like to comment on a pattern unless I've tatted it myself. Looks like I have another to add to the list. Can you send it to me?
I totally agree with you....I'll do anything to avoid hiding an end!

  5. This is so pretty! I do prefer the Josephine Knots, but was afraid to tamper with the pattern - not that using knots would have made any difference ay all.

I notice that other tatters have added points to the doily and I am not sure why - mine, using #40, was fine with the 12 called for. Does the #20 make that much difference in closing the circle, I wonder?

No idea what you did with the mistake which I am not sure if I have found!
